I have had a passion for horses all of my life. I was lucky enough to grow up in a family that had horses and by the age of three my parents could hardly keep me off of them. I began riding Western and at six years old I had developed an interest in showing. I started riding English a couple of years later and continued to show in both disciplines. I realized that I loved jumping and joined our local Pony Club when I was eleven.
Although I love nothing more than cross-country jumping, I have always been interested in many aspects of riding. I have done team penning, chased cattle, enjoyed gymkhanas and spent many hours on the trails. I have a strong interest in Natural Horsemanship and continue to practice that with all of my horses.
Much of my working life has been in the horse industry. At fifteen years old I started working at a rental stable and went on to accumulate over ten years of experience in that field. I worked at The Folenhof Equestrian Academy, where they imported and bred Haflinger horses in addition to operating an International Riding School. I have been training horses since I was a teenager and have always liked to ride all different horses. Eventually I decided that I would prefer to be self employed, so I attended a Farrier School and made my own business training horses and working as a farrier. Unfortunately, my Farrier career was not meant to be a long one and I no longer work in that field. However, the knowledge that I accumulated during that time has proven to be invaluable.
I have not ridden competitively for a number of years, mostly I have stuck to the trails. Recently my competitive streak has rekindled and this year I am planning to show my little Appaloosa mare. I am also quite interested in Cowboy Mounted Shooting, and now that it has been approved in British Columbia I plan to attend some clinics to learn more about it.
Part of my focus with horses has always been striving to improve both their potential in life and their quality of life. On the My Projects page there are pictures and stories of a few of the horses who have come here to have their quality of life improved. Most of them just needed some TLC, but every once in a while I have come across one who simply needs to be given the dignity of a peaceful end. The horses who come here to have their potential in life improved upon are provided with training and handling and are then sold to an appropriate home.
Not all of the horses listed for sale are mine. I list horses on this site for other people as a courtesy and to raise traffic to the site. By increasing site traffic, I hope to also raise awareness surrounding the lack of care of the horses who come here in such neglected conditions. Awareness and education are the best defense towards achieving change.
